Powerboad Challenge 2013 Award

Hello Members,

Congratulations to our teams in the ISA Powerboat Challenge held and hosted by us last Saturday. James Rattigan, Paraic O’Fatharta, Cathal McGuinness and Joe Meagher did us proud and came second overall, demonstrating their skills in boat handling, mooring, coming alongside and tying up, rescuing an upturned kayak, righting an upturned sailing dinghy and towing it ashore, and in effecting a lee-shore rescue.

The winners were our very good neighbours the 24th Galway Sea Scouts with Fionn Delahunty, Ciaran Jordan, Eamonn Murphy and Róisín Jordan – well done everybody. The third place went to a team from Galway Bay Sailing Club. Our team of Micael O’Fatharta, John McCole, Cait Ni Fhatharta and Lauren McCole competed well also demonstrating their skills in powerboat handling. Each member of the teams had to helm for at least one of the tasks so it was an excellent exercise especially for the juniors. The award for outstanding competitor went to James Rattigan – well done James!

Our thanks go to all the helpers – the judges, to Catherine for refreshments, to all who helped launch and retrieve the boats, and to all who came along to support the event. Thanks to Ciaran Murphy and Gail McAllister of the ISA for organizing the event – it’s a long way from Beara for Gail! – and to Pierce Purcell ISA Director for presenting the prizes. Also thanks to the Harbour Hotel for providing the space for the prize giving – we appreciate your continuing support. And the weather was great!
